Ships and the Sea: Picture Book Story Telling & Mini Gallery Talk<Venue: Museum of Maritime Science>

At this story time event, we will be reading two picture books about the ships that work in our ports!

'Cleanmaru, The Cleaning Boat', Ayumi Kamata, Fukuinkan Shoten Publishers, Inc. (2012)

Every day, little Cleanmaru the cleaning boat does his best to clean all sorts of rubbish from the sea.

He may not be as big as the great cargo ships, nor as fast as the smart speedboats, but day in day out Cleanmaru does such important work for everyone's benefit!

'Fireboat, The Heroic Adventures of the John J. Harvey', Maira Kalman, translated by Akiko Yano, Little Dog Press (2004)

With the help of his friends, Harvey, an old retired Newyork fireboat is given a new lease of life. As Harvey is dozing by the wharf, an earth-shattering calamity suddenly befalls New York – the events of September 11th, 2001. “Harvey, we need your help!”

At the 'Ships and the Sea: Picture Book Story Telling', immerse yourself in the authentic nautical sounds, and explore displays that we are opening up to the public on this special occasion. You can see real model versions of the heroes that feature in the stories; cleaning boats and fireboats.

With the Mini Gallery Talk is an opportunity to explore the museum, as our curators introduce the exciting world of 'ships that work in our ports'.

We look forward to your participation.
